Ariana had waited patiently for the right moment; the right moment say those three important words to David, the right moment to show him how much she cared. It was a delicate balance that she tried to strike, clearly showing interest, while at the same time not making him feel trapped or pressured.
"Hey David," Ariana started, and hesitated.
David looked up from the History textbook that they were studying from. "Hm?"
Ariana took a deep breath and leaned forward, and gently brushed her lips against his. "I love you David," she whispered into the silence that followed.
David blinked in surprise, a smile slowly spreading across his face. He leaned forward and kissed her back, lips soft and gentle. "I love you to Ari."

Ah, the first kiss. Short and sweet, but...I sort of miss the crazy anticipation and build-up you get right before that special kiss, you know? Maybe some description of all that's going through Ariana's mind before she kisses David, while she kisses David, would help. It's hard to connect to the moment if you can't connect to the character.
