Forgetting

One weary step following another,
Pressing forward day after day.
Rest on one hand, toil on the other,
Restless feet, I can not stay.

Something drives me forward,
My joy left far behind.
Ignored.
As I journey in my mind.

For me the first stanza was pretty consistent as far as concrete imagery goes, and the second stanza just sort of blew away in the wind. Even if the something is nameless, give me a concrete image - how does it drive you forward? Like a slave-master with a whip, or a devil out of hell chasing you?
