"I'm going to suspend you," Captain Jeffries said, "until IA is done investigating this case."
Detective Quinn nodded. "Of course. I'll just give you these, then." He placed his badge and sidearm on the table, saluted sarcastically, and walked out of the Captain's office. Tonight he was going to get rip-roaring drunk, call all of his old high school friends in a fit of stupidity, and then see about getting a new job in the morning. His partner had stabbed him in the back for the last time.

I had not thought of this direction. Stabbing him in the back for the last time was a great line.
